How To Wash Your Hair Properly

Washing our hair may seem like a mundane task we all do regularly, but there are many ways we might be doing it wrong. In fact, improper hair washing can be damaging to our hair, leading to hair fall, split ends, and dullness. So, here are five ways you might be washing your hair wrong and how to fix it.

1. Using Too Much Shampoo

Using too much shampoo can cause your hair to become sticky and difficult to rinse off. It can also strip your hair of its natural oils, leading to dryness and breakage. For best results, use a coin-sized amount of shampoo for short hair and a little more for long hair.

2. Hot Water

While hot water feels luxurious, it can actually be harmful to your hair. Hot water can open the hair cuticles, causing the hair to lose moisture and making it prone to breakage. Use lukewarm water instead as it helps to retain the natural moisture of the hair.

3. Massaging Hair with Fingernails

Many of us like to scrub our hair with our fingernails, thinking it will clean the hair thoroughly. However, this can cause tangles and split ends, further damaging the hair in the long run. Use your fingertips instead, and gently massage your scalp to increase blood flow and remove dirt.

4. Not Conditioning Enough

Conditioning helps to restore moisture to the hair and makes it easier to style. But, many people do not spend enough time conditioning, which can lead to dry hair. Apply conditioner from mid-length to the ends of your hair, and leave it on for a few minutes before rinsing. This allows the conditioner to penetrate deeply, leaving your hair soft and manageable.

5. Using Hot Tools Immediately after Washing

Using hot tools like a hairdryer or a flat iron immediately after washing your hair can cause your hair to become brittle and dry. Instead, allow your hair to air dry whenever possible or use a cool setting on your hairdryer. Additionally, use a heat protectant serum before using hot tools on your hair.

So, the next time you wash your hair, keep these tips in mind to ensure that your hair remains healthy, shiny, and soft. A little bit of care now can go a long way in keeping your hair looking great.
